The 2022 World Series is scheduled to resume Monday night with Game 3 between the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies in Philadelphia. The two clubs will split Games 1 and 2 at Houston’s Minute Maid Park, before moving the now-best-of-five series to Citizens Bank Park. The forecast calls for rain in the evening through Tuesday morning. The first pitch is currently scheduled for 8:03 p.m. ET, and MLB has already met twice to discuss the weather. Officials recently met at 5 p.m. ET but were unable to make a decision. According to MLBrain remains in the forecast, and we hope to have more clarity when we meet again at 6:45 p.m. ET.

MLB makes all weather-related decisions in the postseason, and the league’s priority is to play nine uninterrupted innings. MLB hopes to avoid starting the game and force everyone to delay later. The league also prefers not to start games late at night after half the country has gone to bed.
If the Astros and Phillies play Game 3 on Monday, it could look like Game 5 of the NLCS. The Phillies and Padres started on time and the two teams played in the rain for most of the game, including occasional heavy rain showers. This postseason had two of his weather-related postponements (games 2 and 5 in his ALDS between the Yankees and the Guardians).
Coincidentally, Philadelphia was the site of MLB’s most infamous World Series weather conundrum. Game 5 of the 2008 World Series was suspended midway through the sixth inning due to rain. The Rays tied the game 2-2 in the previous half innings while the club played in a downpour. Then-commissioner Bud Selig then declared that the Worlds all games in his series he had to be nine innings.
When asked by the Associated Press about the possibility of rain-shortening the World Series, Selig said, “I was never going to let that happen.” , it would have been postponed by the rain until weather conditions allowed it to continue, and it would be 24 or 48 hours, who knows?”
Game 5 continued the next day, with the Phillies winning their first World Series championship since 1980 thanks to Pedro Feliz’s seventh-inning RBI single.
