French forward Olivier Giroud didn’t hesitate when approaching goal early in the match.

Giroud made another try a few minutes later, this time with a header, but was saved by England keeper Jordan Pickford.
17 min: Sweet strike
Midfielder Aurélien Chuameni was an early star of the show, opening the scoring with a goal for France.

French goalkeeper Hugo Lloris came up with important back-to-back saves as England knocked in. First at defender Luke Shaw and then at England captain. Harry Kane – maintain three lions off board.
With Saturday’s start, Loris became the most capped player in the history of the French men’s national team (143).
In the meantime, Kane made another play near the net, so no penalty was awarded for this challenge.
29′: Denied!
Kane took another shot at the 29th-minute mark and was saved again by Loris, this time in the top right corner.
France went into half-time with a 1-0 lead, but Antoine Griezmann received the first yellow card of the match in the 43rd minute.
47′: Heating
Ousmane Dembélé received a yellow card in the first minute of the second half, but did nothing to upset the French rhythm. Loris played one big play after another, saving Jude Bellingham’s shot from in front of goal.
54 min: Penalty
At the beginning of the second half, Bukayo Saka fouled in the penalty area. Kane scored a penalty in his first meeting with Tottenham team-mate Lloris in five-and-a-half years.

England were awarded a second penalty, this time after a VAR review, and Theo Hernández was shown a late yellow card.
Kane took his second penalty shot against club team-mate Loris, but this time missed the net entirely.
France still lead 2-1.
90’+11′: up to wire
It all came down to England’s Marcus Rashford, who had just checked into the match in the 85th minute. He was awarded a free kick in the final minute of Saturday’s game, but his shot went a little too high and went over the net.
This secured victory for France, making them the first reigning champions to reach the semi-finals since Brazil in 1962!

Saturday’s match was England’s third World Cup match between the two nations, having won both in 1966 and 1982.
However, France have only lost one of their last eight meetings with England, in a friendly in November 2015.
