White passes Kane and Charlton’s England goal records and Mead nets four in Lionesses win


SARINA WIEGMAN challenged her Lionesses eager for goals to be even more ruthless in attack after they broke Northern Macedonia.

In the match, Ellen White surpassed the record of Sir Bobby Charlton and Harry Kane in the England jersey, while the Lions won 10-0.

The Manchester City star recorded 50th an international goal with Beth Mead scoring FOUR followed by a hat-trick by Elle Toone and a stretch by Georgia Stanway.

White said: “I’m glad I reached that milestone, but for me it’s all about winning and winning the team.

“I like to play for England and I will do my best to contribute in any way to play for my country.

“I know it’s my job to score, but I want the team to win and three points to qualify for the World Cup.

“I was very blessed to play with phenomenal players in England.

Wiegman added: “We wanted to create a lot of chances and score a lot of goals, but we didn’t concede any, so we did.

“I’m impressed with how we scored and I think we can be even more ruthless.”

The result led England to their third 10-0 away win in World Cup qualifiers before their Group D clash with Northern Ireland, which lost 3-1 to Austria.

And Beth England and Niamh Charles will join the team before that game after negative Covid test results with Leah Williamson returning to training.

England, who defeated their opponents 8-0 in St Mary’s last time-out, quickly started the attack.

They forced the defense of goalkeeper Viktorija Pančurova in the first minute after Lauren Hemp inserted Stanway, and Man City’s ace fired the ball towards the goal.

It was just three more minutes before England registered their opener, and Mead hit with six yards after Hamp’s run and threw into the penalty area.

Wiegman’s aces doubled their lead shortly after White was close to bringing the ball home after Stanway’s pass.

And they did that with Mead, who threw the net through a stunning cross in the 11th minuteth minutes.

And the United United playmaker entered the record near the half-hour stage with a shot that left the goalkeeper without a chance.

White increased the visitors’ lead to four, making the most of Toone’s delivery and hitting a header around 41.st minutes

Stanway scored 5-0 near the whistle at halftime and threw the ball home after a few quick passes from Toone and Hemp.

In the second period, England did not show mercy, as Mead scored two more goals early to seal its four-star performance.

And Stanway sealed her denture after punching the ball in 55th minute when her team took an 8-0 lead.

Wiegman shuffled his deck with Jill Scott and Nikita Parris joining the fight before Katie Zelem, Alessia Russo and Rachel Daly entered the game in the 70s.th minutes.

The team took a 9-0 lead, and Toone shot at home moments later after an exchange of high passes between Parris and Russo.

The Man United ace soon scored his hat-trick as England rounded out their tenth goal defeat and the team faced Northern Ireland.
