Tom Hanks looked ‘anything but frail’ when shoving fan in ‘animal’ display after worrying ‘shaking’ video, says expert

TOM Hanks looked “anything but frail” after rushing to protect his wife Rita Wilson after a fan nearly knocked her down, a body language expert said.

It comes after the 65-year-old Hollywood legend sparked concern among his fans after his arm was seen shaking at the premiere of his new film.

A video showed Tom seemingly unable to control his movement while on stage in Gold Coast, Australia, where he filmed Baz Luhrman’s new film Elvis.

Tom could be seen clasping the microphone as he spoke to the crowd at the premiere.

But on Wednesday, Tom told fans to “back the f*** off” as he stepped in to protect his wife when the couple were mobbed outside a restaurant in Midtown, New York City.

Tom and Rita were caught on video leaving the restaurant when suddenly a large group of people began to swarm towards them.

One overzealous fan then charges in, appearing to be holding a pen for an autograph and a Wilson football prop from Hanks’ movie Castaway.

The man wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses then appears to accidently barge into Rita from behind – shoulder shoving her in the back.

Rita screams and loses her footing – but manages to stay standing as she shouted “stop it” and held up her hands.

The Forrest Gump star then turned to the crowd after checking on his wife and yelled: “That is my wife. back the f**k off.”

Body language expert Judi James said Tom showed an animal-like display as he made no attempt to hide behind his security guards to protect his wife.

She told The Sun Online: “There were stories of Tom’s apparently ‘frail’ appearance while he was promoting his latest movie in Australia – but his body language here suggests anything but frailty.

“There is no attempt to hide behind security or to avoid a personal challenge to the men he thought had pushed his wife.

“There are no signs his entourage appear to be in over-protective mode, either, using only one arm as a barrier in the dispute and not surrounding Tom or clasping him protectively as he makes his way into the car.”

Judi added: “He takes control, raising both hands in a ‘stop’ gesture to stop the fans following, shouting at them to back off.

“His reputation for affability and approachability probably nudges his anger into disbelief.

“We can see his state of what is called ‘aggressive arousal’ as he walks to the car.

“This is a body language state animals use to avoid a fight by signalling superior strength or physical power.

“With Tom his splayed, striding walk is in total contrast to the bowing greeting rituals he was using when he emerged from the venue.”

Oscar-winner Tom appeared to push the fan back and hold up his hands to the crowd in an attempted to calm the shocking scene in New York.

“Knocking over my wife?” he said, looking frustrated and exasperated as he stared at the gathered group.

The couple were ushered away by security into an awaiting vehicle, as one fan shouted “sorry about that Tom”.
