Meghan Markle has said she was asked by Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles (now the King) to write a letter to her estranged father, Thomas Markle.
In the fifth episode of the Netflix documentary, Meghan shared details about the episode.
Speaking about her father, Meghan said she and her father were close for most of her life.
When asked when things started going wrong, she said, “When the media got involved.”
The Duchess of Sussex said, “After the wedding, my father started doing interviews that mostly talked about me.It was incredibly painful. The world is watching this drama unfold.
“And he started criticizing the royal family. But it was very embarrassing to the family. It was an issue that had to be resolved and they were trying to get me to stop doing it.”
The Duchess of Sussex said: “I reached out to Her Majesty The Queen (the late Queen Elizabeth) and said, ‘What is this going on and what do you want me to do?’
“But in the end I was encouraged by the Queen and Prince of Wales to write a letter to my father, and I made great efforts to carefully deliver it to him. Assuming the return address is Kensington Palace, send it to Tom Markle and get there.”
She said, “So send it to my business manager in LA. I said, ‘He’ll recognize the name.'” And get a photo of the signature confirming this was delivered. And it’s not his signature. That’s not my father’s handwriting. It just says “Thomas”.
The letter was made public.
she said.
“I want to print my letter, which I know I can’t legally, but I want to print it and paint a completely different picture of who I am and my relationship with my father.”
Prince Harry said the paper published the letter because he knew the family would encourage us not to file a lawsuit.
Meghan wrote, “We were sitting with the facility’s attorney and senior members of the palace, and I reminded them that I wrote the letter under the guidance of a senior member of the family. It was those meetings. It’s illegal and we have to draw a line.We have to take legal action. They said, ‘Of course.'”
The Duchess added, “And I’ve been following up for weeks and weeks and weeks and I’m like, ‘Hey, what’s going on with this? Nothing.’
Prince Harry said: “After months of saying something needs to be done about this, we have received another legal advice.
