A mailman was shot dead in Milwaukee on Friday night, police said.
Police said the 44-year-old man had worked for the United States Postal Service for 18 years. They didn’t release his name.
“The Milwaukee Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to the USPS for the loss of its members,” the department said in a statement.
Investigators did not provide any information about suspects or motives.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is leading the investigation.
“The safety and security of postal workers is our top priority,” the agency said in a statement.
“The shooting of a Milwaukee postal worker is alarming. My thoughts are with the victim’s family and colleagues. The postal worker involved in this murder was a government employee, making this crime all the more alarming.” Mayor Cavalier Johnson said in a statement.
Rewards of up to $50,000 are offered for information leading to arrest and conviction for murder, according to the Chicago Division of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
“The suspect’s vehicle is described as a silver Audi Q5 SUV with tinted windows,” USPIS said. said in a tweet“Suspects should be seen as armed and dangerous.”
