Politicians lashed out in wake of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle docuseries Harry & Megan Drop it on Netflix.
The first three-episode volume was released on December 8th and is already causing some serious repercussions.
Isle of Wight Conservative MP Bob Seeley told the Mail Online that the former royals have launched “aggressive” and “unbelievable” attacks against the royal family and Britain on the Netflix show, which has resulted in profit gains. They said they used their titles to raise their ranks.
Netflix reportedly paid £88m (A$159m, US$100m) for the Sussex series. It’s part of a multi-year deal with the streaming service.
As a result, Mr. Seeley plans to introduce a private parliamentary bill that will hand over to the Privy Council the power to abolish the royal status of the couple.
To revoke royal titles, the bill amends the 1917 Deprivation of Titles Act previously used to strip honor from those who supported the Germans during World War I.
Seeley said it was time to strip Sussex of the title because he believes the couple continue to throw “television bombs” across the Atlantic to punish the royal family and Britain.
“If this man hates royalty so much, what is he parading around and using his title?” Seeley said.
“If Harry and Meghan were sincere and wanted to live up to their preaching, if they think the royal family is so bad, why use royal titles when it’s to their advantage? Is not it?”
The Isle of Wight Member of Parliament added: [would be] It’s decent that they voluntarily give up the title.
“If they don’t, I think it’s helped by the various people trying to subdue Bills.”
He went on to criticize the pair for “showing off their deep victimhood” despite being “very privileged people.”
And the wider British public seems to agree with Seely.
According to a poll conducted by Techne for The Express, a majority of Britons believe Harry and Meghan should have their titles revoked if they launch a ferocious attack on the royal family.
The poll was conducted in relation to Prince Harry’s upcoming memoir spareit’s out in the New Year, but the principles are still applicable Harry & Megan.
next release of Harry & Meghan Episodes 4-6 will be released on Netflix on December 15th.
