Nikki Haley attacked former President Donald Trump as he launched his campaign in her home state of South Carolina on Saturday.
Trump addressed an audience of about 200 at the Columbia State Capitol, which is flanked by Governor Henry McMaster and Senator Lindsay Graham.
But Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and Trump’s ambassador to the United Nations, was among those who didn’t attend the event.
Haley, who is set to launch her presidential campaign in the coming months, wrote on twitter Saturday: “It’s time for a new generation to lead.”
In a tweet, she shared a clip of an interview she gave to Fox News earlier in January.
The clip featured Haley’s response when asked about her statement to the Associated Press in 2021 that she would not seek the Republican nomination if Trump chose to run in 2024.
“America’s survival matters,” Haley said, adding that it’s “bigger than one person.”
“And as I look to America’s future, I think it’s time for a new generational shift. I don’t think you have to be 80 to be DC’s leader,” Haley said. I think the younger generation needs to come in and step up and really start solving problems.”
Haley is 51, Trump is 76, and President Joe Biden is 80.

In that interview, Haley said she was on the verge of deciding whether to run for the White House.
She added that she commented on supporting Trump’s 2024 candidacy. A lot has changed because of foreign policy turmoil.
“And when you look at it, you see the fact that if I’m this passionate and this determined, why not me.”
report in dispatch On Saturday, Haley said she could run for president in 2024 as early as February.
“She’s definitely in a position to be launched,” said Dave Wilson, president of the Palmetto Family Council in Columbia, South Carolina. I just think there is.”
Trump traveled to New Hampshire and South Carolina on Saturday to try to brush off criticism of his late arrival.
At the New Hampshire Republican Party’s annual meeting in Salem, he told a small audience, “I’m angrier and more committed now than I’ve ever been.
