Tehran-Ebrahim Rezaei, a prominent member of the Iranian parliament, emphasized on Monday the roles of the Iranian and Russian parliaments in enabling and promoting cooperation between the two countries.
Rezaei, chairman of the Iran-Russia parliamentary friendship group, made the comments during a meeting with Russia’s Vladimir Vasilyev, who was visiting Tehran with a parliamentary team.
An Iranian parliamentarian emphasized Tehran’s neighbor-friendly foreign policy, saying improving relations with Russia was of the utmost importance to the Islamic Republic.
The Iranian and Russian presidents have agreed on key points that could have a significant impact on the development of relations between the two countries, he said.
Rezaei noted that the Russian and Iranian parliaments could have significant leverage by using their legislative powers to remove legal barriers to foster cooperation in all areas.
Vladimir Vasiliev, head of the Russian-Iranian Parliamentary Friendship Group, said further development of Iran-Russia relations could contribute to promoting the interests of the citizens of both countries.
He stressed the importance of agreements and cooperation projects between Iran and Russia and the need for rapid implementation of agreements already signed.
Vasiliev thought that the Russian and Iranian parliaments, with the knowledge of experts from both countries, might pave the way for solutions to problems that hamper bilateral trade.
