NEW YORK – Motherspeaks.
The child is recovering from injuries sustained in hospital after a terrifying fall on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old mother says the toddler came out through a window with air conditioning, but no shield. She has a broken leg, but otherwise she’s fine, and he even talked to her after he fell to the ground.
“He said, ‘Mom, I want my blankets.’ And I like, you want your blanket? Like, Carter, are you okay? ”Dominique Christian said.
Christian says her boy is in the hospital after miraculously surviving a six-story fall from their apartment on East 143rd Street in Mott Haven.
“He takes it day by day, and I hope that my baby will recover quickly. And everything else,” said Christian.
The 29-year-old single mother told CBS2 that she often told the boy to stop playing by the window, which at the time had air conditioning and a space covered with wood and duct tape.
“I did my best to keep him locked up, but my baby didn’t want to. He just kept taking things off. I’m like, Carter, you can’t do that,” Christian said.
Christian says all the other windows in the apartment had window guards, except the one with the air conditioning from which the boy fell out.
In a statement, NYCHA said: “After the first inspection, window guards are present throughout the apartment where needed and were last inspected in February 2022, and there are no recorded orders to repair the air conditioners present at the residence.”
Asked where he was when the accident happened, Christian said she was not in the apartment and then said: “I really don’t want to get into it.”
In a statement, the Children’s Services Administration said: “The safety and well-being of New York City’s children is our top priority. We are investigating this case with the NYPD.”
Christian says that if someone has air conditioning on the window like her, he invites you to take it out immediately.
