Georgia cemented its No. 1 position in the wake of a commanding victory over the then No. 1. 3 Tennessee. Bulldog received all but two of his first-place votes from the 63 voting panelists this week, nearly unanimously winning the most votes.
Ohio State remains in second place, but the Buckeyes were not voted first in any poll after their lackluster victory over Northwestern. The other he got two nods for his first place instead he went to third place Michigan. Michigan got off to a slow start against the Rutgers but went on to win well and move up in the polls.
TCU, the fourth and final undefeated team in the bowl subdivision, also jumped to fourth in the rankings. Tennessee rounded out the top five, dropping two places but ahead of No. 6 Oregon, who suffered their only loss of the season at the hands of Georgia.
Alabama dropped five places to 11th, and Clemson dropped seven places to 12th. This was just his second week into the playoff period and the first time since the September 27, 2015 poll that neither the Crimson Tide nor the Tigers were selected. This is the only state not in the top 10 since 2010.
