King Charles headed his first service as new monarch after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in honor of Britain’s anniversary observed on Sunday. He appeared to hold back tears during the emotional first Sunday service in honor of those who sacrificed their lives.
Prince Charles had previously served as Prince of Wales on behalf of the Queen, but this anniversary was the first time he stood in front of the memorial in his role as Head of State. Her tearful Princess of Wales and Lady Camilla also watched today’s moving memorial Sunday service together. Prince William was also present, laying a wreath previously laid by his father, who held the title of Prince of Wales for over 64 years.
King Charles’ first Remembrance Day service as monarch
At a recent Sunday service in honor of the fallen new monarch, King Charles looked particularly solemn as the crowd staged a rendition of “Save the King.” Prince Charles’ Princess Camilla and Princess Kate watched the moving scene from the balcony of the Office of Foreign Affairs, Federal and Development. At the service, the King led the march, followed by the Royal Princess, Prince William and Prince Edward.
Prince Harry’s emotional gesture
Prince Harry also celebrated Britain’s anniversary by sharing a special message for the children of the war dead. He wrote to the children of Scotty’s Little Soldiers, an organization that helps lost children. According to ET, the Duke wrote:
In the letter, Prince Harry encouraged his children to share the burden of grief and spoke of his own experience, saying, “What I have learned to deal with is talking about my grief through the community. I couldn’t have been more grateful and relieved to have had some wonderful people walking by your side during your journey.” The Duke of Sussex paid tribute to the honorable memory of his parents. I concluded my letter.
