Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney approves former President Donald Trump to “end” constitutional rules and regulations that he claims led to fraud in the 2020 presidential election Rep. Paul Gosser’s now removed evoked a tweet.
In a Truth Social post posted over the weekend, the former president again touted the baseless “massive and widespread fraud and deception” he believed took place in the 2020 election. He has proposed annulling the election results or holding an entirely new election, and has held unspecified U.S. laws and regulations accountable for his defeat.
“A massive fraud of this kind and scale allows for the termination of all rules, regulations and articles, including those in the Constitution,” he wrote in Truth Social Saturday. “Our great ‘Founder’ did not want or tolerate false and fraudulent elections!”
Trump tried to retract his remarks on Monday after backlash from Republican senators over his call to end the U.S. Constitution.
“Fake news is trying to convince the American people that I said I ‘want to end’ the Constitution,” Trump said on Truth Social.
Gossar, a Republican from Arizona, tweeted Trump’s Saturday Truth social message and endorsed the former president, despite other Republican lawmakers denouncing the former president’s remarks.
“Unprecedented fraud requires unprecedented therapy,” Gosar wrote in a now-deleted tweet.
Anthony Foti, a Gosar spokesperson, told Insider’s Bryan Metzger that malicious actors and “people with low IQs” misread the tweet, prompting an Arizona legislator to remove it. .
“No one in Congress has fought for constitutional values more than Ms. Gosar. He is known for good reasons as a staunch constitutionalist. I have a vote,” Foti said. “President Trump has reissued the statement to clarify his intentions. Those who claim that either Trump or Rep. Gosser do not believe in the Constitution are acting in bad faith or Low IQ people who cannot understand our language and behavior.”
Cheney Joined the discourse on Twitter late Wednesdayshared a screenshot of Gosser’s now-deleted tweet and tagged House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
“Did you see this tweet before @RepGosar deleted it?” she wrote to McCarthy. “Is it time to blame Trump yet?”
Last week, Cheney also Mention McCarthy on Twittercalled on the leader of the House Republican Party to “denounce Donald Trump for meeting with neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes, the pro-Putin leader of the America First Political Action Conference.”
