BAGHDAD (IraqiNews.com) – Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, arrived in Iraq on Sunday to sign a security deal between the two countries.
In a meeting with Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araj, Shamkhani said the deal would lead to a comprehensive development of relations.
“With the full implementation of the security agreement between Iran and Iraq, the relationship will move more quickly towards inclusive development,” Shamukhani said.
“There is no doubt that an agreement between the two countries to remove the security challenges imposed on Iran-Iraq relations will serve the interests of both countries,” Al-Araj said.
“Baghdad will not allow any group or country to use its territory to create instability in Iran,” Al-Araj added.
The Tasnim News Agency reported on Sunday that Tehran will sign a joint security cooperation document with Iraq during Shamkhani’s visit to Baghdad.
The document had been under discussion by senior security officials from both countries for several months, the Tasnim News Agency added.
Prime Minister Shamkhani is also expected to hold discussions addressing some common security and economic issues between the two countries.
The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said on Saturday that Siamkhani will hold talks on promoting trade exchanges, promoting banking cooperation, resolving security challenges that hinder the development of relations between the two countries, and accelerating the implementation of economic agreements. said.
Iraq is the third stop on Siamhani’s tour after visiting China and the United Arab Emirates.
In China, Shamkhani led talks with Saudi Arabia, announcing an agreement last Friday to restore ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
