Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, criticized the holding of back-to-back Security Council meetings on Syria’s chemical weapons, citing Iran’s full cooperation in this area.
Mr Iravani said the holding of these meetings reinforces suspicions of repeated political accusations against Damascus.
He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemned the use of chemical weapons by anyone, anywhere and under any circumstances and considered it a clear violation of international law.
“We believe that any investigation into the use of chemical weapons must be impartial, professional, credible, objective and in full compliance with the procedures of the Chemical Weapons Convention,” the Iranian Special Envoy said. It pointed out.
According to him, politicizing the Chemical Weapons Convention would jeopardize the credibility of the organization and the treaty.
Syria voluntarily joined the Chemical Weapons Convention in 2013 and destroyed the arsenals and facilities used to produce these weapons, Iravani added.
