TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdulahian has canceled a trip to the Italian capital Rome due to a more important meeting in Tehran, Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported.
Amir Abdullahian was due to travel to Rome to attend the Mediterranean Dialogue (MED) conference hosted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting started on Thursday.
IRNA, citing a source in Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the trio was canceled because Iran’s foreign minister had a more important meeting.
“This trip was in the planning stages to attend the MED conference. .
The sources added that the Italian foreign minister would visit Iran at the agreed time given the good relations between Iran and Italy.
Amir Abdulahian met with Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio in Rome in mid-July.
The delegation accompanied Amir Abdullahian to Italy.
Upon arrival, Amir Abdulahian said: We had two consultations and discussions in New York and Munich. Pursuing political, economic and commercial cooperation is one of the main goals of this visit, and various programs are on the agenda for these goals. ”
In a meeting with the Italian Foreign Minister, Amir Abdullahian said: We sincerely hope for a good and lasting deal and believe that Iran will derive full economic benefit from her JCPOA. The US needs to understand this fact about warranties. ”
He added that Tehran has always presented new initiatives to revitalize the deal. But the foreign minister said Americans were not acting “correctly” and “reasonably.”
Amir Abdullahian suggested that they should make their understanding of the subject realistic.
Di Mario emphasized that Italy and the European Union are interested in negotiating the return of all parties to the JCPOA and that Italy is ready to play an active role in this regard.
