TEHRAN – As Carlos Queiroz’s team prepares for the 2022 World Cup, they want maximum coordination in their final preparation match against Tunisia. They hope to prepare well and face England in their first match at the World Cup.
Team Meri defeated Nicaragua 1-0 in a friendly at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium on Thursday.
Queiroz was a substitute against Nicaragua, missing the likes of Mehdi Taremi, Alireza Jahanbaksh, Sardar Azmon and Saman Godos. As such, the Portuguese coach sought to test other players in his team in order to better understand which players deserved to be in the World Cup final.
* shocking injury
A tragic and unfortunate event against Nicaragua was that Omid Ebrahimi suffered a serious injury and missed the World Cup.
The hard-working defensive midfielder left the field on a stretcher after suffering a groin injury just two minutes after coming on the field in the match against Nicaragua.
The incident reminded Ebrahimi of a similar scene at the 2018 World Cup. There, he also sat out of the game against Morocco due to injury.
In the closed-doors game against Nicaragua, Mehdi Torabi found the net in the 15th minute. Omid Noorafkan slipped a pass to Trabi from the left.
Iran beat Uruguay 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Senegal in late September at training camp in Austria. Taremi and Azmon receive the pass from the left side. The Portuguese head coach seems to have a specific plan for attacking from the left flank.
The Persian Leopards will also face Tunisia in a friendly in Doha, Qatar. Team Meri will join England, USA and Wales in Group B of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Iran will start the campaign with his November 21st match against England.
