Harry Styles fans, thank Annie Simmons today. why?Simmons is a costume designer. my cop— now streaming on Amazon Prime Video — and she’s an absolute genius for dressing Styles in shorts and a comfy sweater vest.As beach outfitWe owe her for life.
Based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Bethan Roberts and directed by Michael Grandage. my cop An aging woman named Marion reflects on how she met her husband, Tom, and slowly reveals her secret love affair with another man. But before Marion knew anything about Tom’s “friend” Patrick, she knew Tom was her friend’s hot brother. An older Marion (played by Gina McKee) looks at her aging husband (played by Linus Roach) as they begin their relationship on a beach in Brighton, England in the 1950s. I remember the day And given the outfit her future husband wore on her that day, who can blame her for collapsing on the spot?
Now young Marion, played by Emma Corrin, is lounging on the beach with her friends and shamelessly looks up at her friend’s brother, Tom. Harry Styles, of course. But this isn’t just Harry Styles. This is Harry Styles in her blue shorts in the tiniest navy she’s ever seen. A very small flap of fabric celebrates their soul, barely covering his third of Styles’ thigh. Endless legs!and the shorts tight Around the thigh. They’re essentially the exact opposite of the long, baggy cargo shorts that have long denied men’s thighs, and they’re glorious.
And then we have to talk about what designer Annie Simmons (again, a certified genius as far as I’m concerned) paired with the world’s smallest shorts: a white collared button-up and a sweater vest.a sweater vestOn the beach! With tiny shorts! Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, stunning and more!
In contrast to the teeny-tiny pants, this knitwear is a little bulky, a little frayed, and super comfortable—a perfect choice to soften Styles’ strikingly handsome, chiseled face. Without the sweater vest, this beautiful man in tiny shorts might have been shouting “rich sex doll.” But when he’s wearing a sweater vest, he’s kind, approachable, and non-threatening. He is, at least in Marion’s mind, her husband’s material.(Of course, he ultimately isn’t. At least for her.)
Me I’m not sure if this is a realistic outfit for a man in the 1950s, but frankly I don’t care.in an interview with variety“I approach emotionally and visually,” she said. “That’s the most important thing.”
Simmons sadly didn’t mention this iconic shorts and sweater-vest combination in that interview, but he changed Tom’s police uniform to blue, even though his original uniform was black at the time. “I thought it would be better with more blue,” Simmons said. “It gave Harry an aura and made him seem more attractive, youthful, and less authoritarian. When you have a young, handsome actor like Harry, you work with it.” Don’t run from there.”
She is right and should say so. Wearing her best of shorts and sweater, Harry Styles should win an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Golden Her Globe, and a MacArthur genius grant. This is the age look.
