French actress Isabelle Adjani has called on Muslim women wearing hijabs and other head coverings to remove them in solidarity with “those who are being slaughtered for doing the same” .
Adjani, whose father is Algerian and whose mother is German, is one of several French actresses, including Juliette Binoche and Marion Cotillard, who had their hair cut last month to protest Masa Amini’s death on Sept. 16. I took a picture of him cutting off part of it.
Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian woman, died in hospital under suspicious circumstances after being arrested by the Religious and Ethical Police for not wearing a hijab in accordance with government standards. Authorities said Amini had suffered a heart attack, but her witnesses claimed she had been severely beaten.
