Nashville, Tennessee (WTVF) — As women in Iran continue to protest for more rights, people here in Nashville continue to show solidarity.
A Freedom Rally for Iran hosted by Women Life Freedom Nashville will be held later today at the Federal Building. The group has been holding meetings for weeks already.
Protests erupted in Iran after the death of Martha Amini in September, and activists here have launched their own protests to show Iranian women they are not fighting alone. I have been to
Amini died in custody at the age of 22 after being arrested by the Iranian morality police for showing her hair outside her hijab.
NewsChannel 5 spoke to activist Mariam Abolfazli, whose parents fled Iran shortly before she was born.
Abolfazli said she fears she still has a large family there as the government escalates violence against protesters.

“Americans matter. Share things, tell your friends about it. Share it on social media. It’s embarrassing and humiliating for the government,” Abolfazli said. Doing, being this voice, will help counter atrocities in this country.”
The White House is watching. Following Amini’s death, the US has imposed sanctions on Iran’s morality police. The United States is also working to remove Iran from the United Nations because it deals with women.
Iran’s free rally today begins at 1pm in front of the Federal Building.
