I received my first Kindle as a Christmas present over ten years ago. My then-boyfriend, understandably, thought I was a nerd and showed me the convenience of e-readers. If there’s one thing we’ve learned from Beauty and the Beast, it’s probably that we can rely on libraries to swoon girls.
Twelve years later, I’m still sticking with that giver, but I’ve replaced the e-reader a few times. My latest upgrade is Amazon’s 2022 base model. After using the device for a few weeks, it’s clear that the Kindle 2022 bridges the gap with Amazon’s more expensive offerings.
About this article: I tested the Amazon Kindle 2022 for about two weeks. The unit was provided by Amazon, but Amazon did not say anything about the direction or published content.
Surprisingly fun size (if your idea of fun is reading)

For me, the glory of the Kindle is its portability. Size matters for a partner who always asks to carry things. At just 6.2 inches, the Kindle 2022 fits easily in your bag, pocket, or bedside drawer. Amazon didn’t choose to increase the screen size with this model, but the trade-off is to remain compact. At just 158 grams, it’s potentially lighter than a smartphone. You can hold it in one hand and keep the other hand free to drink tea. It also means devouring page turns without your wrists burning out.
The petite build of the Amazon Kindle (2022) is great for travel and light enough to hold in one hand for extended reading.
Despite its diminutive size, the Kindle 2022 offers the opportunity to tow hundreds of books and audiobooks at any given time. In fact, the device offers 16GB of storage. That’s twice as much for him as the base model Kindle Paperwhite (2021). This is useful not only for daily use, but also for long trips. It’s important for someone who lives in the cool her six hours flight away from other major landmasses.

Packing your Kindle in your carry-on is more important than comfy clothes and in-flight meals (although those are second and third priorities). Not only do I love the immediate anti-social vibe that e-readers create, but no one should be peeping through the back cover of my paperback to see which books have my attention. I also cherish it. The Kindle 2022 ticked both boxes and entertained me for hours before slipping into my sweatshirt pocket when I dozed off.
Amazon Kindle (2022) now offers 16 GB of storage space, giving you plenty of room for your audiobooks.
Especially when traveling, the ability to pivot to audiobooks is very important to drown out your fellow passengers. The extra storage capacity of the Kindle 2022 is more important for listening than reading. Audiobooks take up about 280MB to 350MB of space, while e-books use only 4MB. About 1.2GB is used by his Kindle’s software, but around 6GB is enough for even the most avid reader. If you introduce audiobooks into your rotation, those gigabytes will fill up much faster. The jump from 8 GB to 16 GB becomes more significant for large audio files. In addition to the staples already downloaded, you can add enough books and audiobooks for your entire trip without worrying about storage space (in your bag or on your Kindle).
Additionally, the option to send PDFs and other documents to your device also highlights how valuable extra space is. Using the unique Amazon-provided email, I sent everything from travel itineraries to Maid of Honor speech drafts to my Kindle. By reading personal documents on e-readers, users can avoid having distracting elements (looking at the iPhone) on the screen.
Long lasting and fast charging

Storage capacity isn’t the only feature of the Kindle 2022 that benefits avid book lovers. Updates to his USB-C charger in the e-reader allow it to charge significantly faster than previous models. The Kindle 2022 can be charged from zero to 100 in about four hours from your computer via a USB cable. You can cut that time in half by charging with a 9W USB-C wall charger. And since you’ll likely be sharing your charger with other electronics you already own, it’s less stressful about packing the right cords. Even if you’re stuffed, you can reach your destination and work on a new series.
The Kindle (2022) charges faster than previous models with the new USB-C charger.
According to Amazon, reading for 30 minutes a day will drain the battery in about 6 weeks. When you charge your Kindle for his second time, you’ll also need to replace the toothbrush head. If you regularly start reading a book in the middle of the night and accidentally read until dawn, chances are you’ll finish the book before your battery runs out. That said, audio streaming drains your battery faster. You may not want to sleep regularly while your device is running frequently.
welcome to the dark side

Caitlin Cimino / Android Authority
Anyone looking to relax while reading will be delighted to hear that Dark Mode has been introduced to Kindle 2022. By inverting text to white on a black background, users can more easily enjoy their books. You can sleep without disturbing others.as explained in android authorityresearch shows that dark mode isn’t always the best idea, but personal experience shows that dark mode can be the best for marriage. Instead of a bright screen to maintain, dark mode allows for guilt-free reading. Plus, if you’re already taking advantage of dark mode on other devices, the consistency option is a nice addition.
Where the Amazon Kindle (2022) really shines is in its updated display and front light, literally. Amazon eventually ditched his 167ppi e-ink display in favor of his 300ppi screen found on higher-end models. The text on the upgraded screen is extremely crisp and easy to read, even when choosing a smaller font size to see more words at once. Its four LED lights provide adjustable lighting (though no adjustable warmth yet). It can be used comfortably even in the dark or in bright sunlight. The reading experience is very close to hard copy clarity.
The Kindle 2022 features the same 300ppi display as its more expensive siblings and displays crisper text, including a new dark mode.
As for responsiveness, there is still a slight delay when turning pages or picking a book. Plus, with the updates Amazon is bringing to his Kindle ecosystem in early 2022, navigation is easier and more efficient as well. The ability to stack a series of books in your library is my favorite user experience improvement.
Amazon Kindle (2022) Review: Conveying the Basics

Caitlin Cimino / Android Authority
In terms of materials and durability, this is still a basic Kindle. There are no physical buttons for page turning. It’s not water resistant like its more expensive siblings, so reading poolside around kids playing cannons is still dangerous.
That said, it’s still the best base-model Kindle ever. Actually, a refreshed display could have upped the line, but luckily, Amazon didn’t stop there. The company also gave the base model more storage and faster charging, resulting in a refreshed, reliable, and incredibly useful device.Ad-free version of Kindle 2022 for just $99.99 You can get it. Each device comes with 4 months of Kindle Unlimited free.
