After suffering a cardiac arrest during Monday’s game, Buffalo Bills safety Dumar Hamlin will be put on a ventilator as doctors work to help him breathe on his own, according to an update from the player’s uncle. remains sedated.
The 24-year-old player is still in critical condition as of Tuesday night, his uncle Dorian Glenn told CNN, before the excitement of Hamlin’s tackle on the Bengals’ wide receiver surged.
Within seconds, medical personnel rushed to the field, administered CPR, and resuscitated Hamlin in front of his teammates. Many of my teammates were kneeling, praying, crying openly, and hugging each other.
Hamlin was resuscitated twice that night, once on the field and once rushed to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was treated Tuesday night, according to his uncle.

“I’m not a crybaby, but I’ve never cried so hard in my life. My nephew basically died in the field and they brought him back to life,” Glenn said.
According to Glenn, Hamlin uses a ventilator to take the strain off his damaged lungs. The doctor told Glenn that his nephew had also “flipped his stomach” to help with blood in his lungs at the hospital, adding, “He seems to be on the rise in a positive way.”

The game was suspended with nearly six minutes left in the first quarter and later officially postponed. The NFL said on Tuesday that games will not resume this week and no decision has been made on whether to resume at a later date.
On-field injuries are not uncommon in the league, and play is often resumed after serious cases, but Hamlin was forced to return as medical personnel fought to save Hamlin’s life as fans and players watched. Cardiac arrest was particularly disturbing, several current and former players said.
Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins said he realized the severity of his teammate’s condition when Hamlin remained on the ground as more and more medical staff were called in.
“In that moment, you’re just like, ‘What can I do? What can we do?’ And it immediately turns you into a prayer,” Dawkins told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. Only a higher power can really control what is next, whether or not you are a believer, and those of us who assist have also assisted that higher power.”

Hamlin’s collapse is just the latest in a series of tragic blows to players and the Buffalo community. Over the past few months, the Buffalo community has endured a racist shooting and a historic blizzard that left at least 41 people dead in Erie County, New York. “It was, you know, a constant blow for Buffalo,” said Dawkins.
An overwhelming wave of support surrounded Hamlin and his family, with messages of prayers and wishes pouring in from star players, fans and national leaders. A player-initiated fundraiser for the Chasing M’s Foundation toy drive has raised nearly $6 million since his hospitalization.
At a prayer service for players Tuesday night, members of the community described the heartbreak of seeing “one of our own” endure such a crisis.
“All you can do now is pray for Damar. Not the football player, not Buffalo Bill, but the man. rice field.
It is still unknown what led to Hamlin’s cardiac arrest – a condition caused by an electrical disturbance in which the heart suddenly stops beating properly. Death can occur quickly if help is not immediately provided. It is different from a heart attack or heart failure.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s Chief Medical Reporter, explained that when the heart is not beating well, fluid flows back into the lungs, making it difficult for medical staff to deliver oxygen to patients. Place the person on their stomach in a prone position.
Gupta also said Hamlin still had a significant amount of heart failure, and it appeared his heart wasn’t pumping enough blood.
One treatment option is to reduce the body’s demand for oxygenated blood, he told CNN’s Anderson Cooper.
“So you want to improve circulation, but in the meantime you can also reduce demand by sedating someone or keeping someone on a respirator,” he said. It’s called hypothermia, which basically puts the body in a hibernation-like state so it doesn’t need as much oxygenated blood. It’s part of the reason I wear them.”
In a statement Tuesday, the Hamlin family thanked staff at the University of California Medical Center for “providing special care to Damar.”
“On behalf of our family, we sincerely appreciate the love and support shown to Damar during this difficult time. We are deeply touched by the prayers, kind words and donations from fans across the country.” did.
Some Star Athletes Including Tennis Players Coco GauffNFL’s JJ Watt and NBA legend LeBron James praised the NFL’s decision to postpone the game, emphasizing the importance of Hamlin’s safe recovery over the outcome of the game.
Former NFL player Donte Stallworth said the league’s decision to postpone the game wouldn’t have happened years ago. Let’s go,” he told CNN’s Jim Shute.
“I don’t know if the game can be made safer,” he said. “This is a brutal sport. I think people forget that. Sometimes they see players more as commodities – especially in fantasy football. And sometimes you forget the human side of having kids,” he added, noting that Hamlin’s “mother had witnessed this with her own eyes.”
Dawkins said he was relieved and grateful his team didn’t have to continue playing.
“The fact that we didn’t have to go back and play on that field only shows that there was care, and all we can ask for is that we be treated as human beings. “Most people treat us as athletes and superstars and some treat us like celebrities, but in that moment they treated us like human beings.”
Bills players and staff are still processing Monday night’s event, a source within the team told CNN’s Coy Wire.
The ongoing shock of Hamlin’s hospitalization – May’s city shooting, December’s blizzard, November’s home game shift to Detroit, stranded in Chicago on vacation – It weighs heavily on everyone involved with the club. said the source.
“Everyone is exhausted,” a source told The Wire, adding that the team’s flight back to New York didn’t land until 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
