Donald Trump is all about winning.
In the 2016 campaign trail, “We’re going to win a lot. We’re going to get bored of winning. You’ll say, ‘Mr. President, my head hurts.'” Please don’t win too much. This is getting worse. And I’m going to say, “No, we need to make America great again.” you’re going to say “please” I said, “No, no. We’re going to keep winning.
The entire Trump persona is wrapped up in the idea that all he does is win, apologizing to DJ Khaled. In his view, he is the ultimate winner in life – he is rich! He is successful! he is famous! – And the only people who won’t admit it are the haters and the losers.
Aside from that, at least in politics, Trump has lost far more than he has won.
Yes, Trump won the 2016 presidential election. But since then the following has happened.
* Republicans lost control of the House in 2018.
*Trump lost the White House in 2020.
* Republicans will lose control of the Senate in 2021.
* Republicans underperformed dramatically despite high expectations in the 2022 midterm elections.
It’s a decidedly spotty record, as a new op-ed from the Wall Street Journal’s editorial board claims it’s time for the Republican Party to move on from the former president.
“Mr. Trump could botch the 2022 election and hand over the Senate to Democrats for two more years,” reads the op-ed. “Mr. Trump has been successful as president with policies such as tax cuts and deregulation, but he has led Republicans to one political debacle after another.”

One of the more perplexing things about Trump’s continued appeal to the Republican Party, at least to me, is his ability to maintain a position of power despite clearly bad results. Only 39% of midterm voters viewed him favorably.
there really is number I question Trump’s track record as a Republican leader. He has seen quite a few setbacks and disappointing performances. He pushed candidates with limited appeal outside the most extreme parts of the Republican base who were unable to come close to victory in winnable seats. He alienated moderates, independents, and even decent Republicans.

Why didn’t it happen with Trump? Well, that’s at least in part because Trump has never conceded defeat, whether in the 2020 election or in any of the other contests I mentioned above.
“Yesterday’s election was kind of disappointing in some ways, but from my personal perspective, it was 219-16,” Trump said on the website Truth Social. It was a huge victory,” he said.
But facts are facts. Trump has lost at every turn since his stunning victory in 2016. The question is whether Republican voters will wake up to that fact.
