Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James, arguing her lawsuit against him was an abuse of power to pursue political influence and intimidation tactics.
The attorney general filed her own lawsuit in September, alleging years of financial fraud by Trump and his children in their roles in the Trump Organization.
James filed a lawsuit in the New York State Supreme Court after a three-year civil investigation into the former president and his business. Trump’s three oldest children, Donald Jr., Ivanka and Eric Trump, have also been named as defendants in the lawsuit, along with two company executives, Allen Weisselberg and Jeffrey McConney.
“This investigation reveals that Donald Trump engaged in years of illegal activity to inflate his net worth in order to defraud banks and the people of New York State,” James said at the time. “Claiming to have money you don’t have is not the art of trading. It is the art of stealing.”
A state lawsuit against Trump seeks a $250 million fine and a ban on him and his children from doing business in New York for five years. He said he would introduce the criminal to the police.
In a post on Trump’s conservative website Truth Social, he said New York was plagued with violent crime and investigating him would be a partisan act against him, his family and his business. be.
