LATROBE, Pennsylvania — Former President Donald Trump is predicting the doom of America if his fellow Republicans don’t deliver a major election wave on Tuesday.President Joe Biden and two others Democrats, led by the former president, have warned that abortion rights, social security and even democracy itself are at stake.
Three of the six incumbent presidents delivered harrowing closing messages on Saturday in battleground Pennsylvania heading into the final weekend of the 2022 midterm elections, but millions of Americans Their words echoed across the country as they voted to determine the balance of power in Washington and major state capitals. Voting across America closes on Tuesday, but he’s already got more than 39 million votes.
Biden was scheduled to campaign outside New York on Sunday, while Trump headed to Florida.
“If you want to stop destroying our country and save the American dream, you must vote Republican on Tuesday.”
Earlier in the day, Biden shared the stage with former President Barack Obama in Philadelphia. For the first time since Biden took office, the former running mates campaigned together. In neighboring New York, even former President Bill Clinton, who has had little involvement in national affairs in recent years, has defended his party.
“Quitting and mopping is not an option,” Obama condemned. “Don’t let our country fall 50 years backwards on Tuesday.”
It seems not everyone was getting the message across when the weekend started.
Even before he arrived in Pennsylvania, Mr. Biden is dealing with renewed political turmoil after upsetting some within his party by pushing for plans to shut down fossil-fuel factories in favor of green energy. I was. He commented the day before in California that the fossil fuel industry is a major employer in Pennsylvania.
Democratic West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said the president owes an apology to coal workers across the country. He called Biden’s comments “offensive and disgusting.”
Mr. Trump grabbed the Western Pennsylvania riff and accused Mr. Biden of “resuming the war on coal, your coal.”
The White House said Biden’s words were “twisted to imply an unintended meaning. He regrets that some were offended by hearing these remarks,” adding that the “economic and commented on the facts of the technology.”
Democrats are deeply concerned about their narrow majority in the House and Senate. Voters are frustrated with Mr. Biden’s leadership amid soaring inflation, rising crime concerns and widespread pessimism about the country’s direction. As history suggests, the Democrats, as the party in power, will suffer big losses in the midterm elections.
Trump slapped Republican Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida while campaigning in Pennsylvania. After putting the recent presidential poll numbers on the big screen, Trump called potential 2024 Republican rival DeSantis “Ron DeSanctimonias.”
Trump’s weekend trip was part of a late blitzkrieg scheduled to take him to Ohio. and is expected to start in the days or weeks after voting closes.
Multiple times on Saturday, Trump falsely claimed he lost the 2020 election simply because the Democrats cheated, raising the possibility of election fraud this week. In part, because of such rhetoric, federal intelligence agencies have warned that political violence by far-right extremists could break out in the coming days.
Speaking of another White House bid, Trump said, “Ladies and gentlemen, I promise you, in a very, very, very short period of time, you will be happy.” Republicans must win a historic victory one day.”
Biden’s speech in Pennsylvania was pretty much the same one he’s been giving for weeks. He spotlighted his key legislative accomplishments while warning that abortion rights, voting rights, Social Security and Medicare would be at risk if Republicans took control of Congress.
The president highlighted the inflation-cutting action passed by the Democratic-led Congress in August. This includes some medical provisions that are popular among the elderly and less affluent. Monthly limit per insulin prescription. The new law also requires companies that raise prices faster than overall inflation to pay rebates to Medicare.
But with a larger, more energetic audience in his hometown, Biden’s energy seemed elevated.
Of the threats to democracy, Biden said, “We need to reaffirm the values that have defined us for so long: ‘We’re good people. I know this.'”
He added: “Go out and vote!”
