Former President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit Wednesday against New York State Attorney General Letitia James, accusing her of abusing her position to wage a “battle of intimidation and harassment” against him.
A 41-page lawsuit filed in Palm Beach County, where Trump lives, alleges James was politically motivated ahead of the 2022 midterm elections in her investigation into the former president’s business dealings with Florida. He is accused of breaking the law in New York.
“What began as a satirical, veiled and covert effort to openly denigrate President Trump for personal political gain would eventually become a revocable trust in Florida, of which President Trump is a settler. has turned into a conspiracy to gain control of a global private company owned by the United States,” the lawyer wrote in the lawsuit Wednesday.
James sued Trump, his children Eric, Ivanka, Donald Trump Jr. and the Trump Organization for $250 million in September, alleging “outrageous” fraud in the family’s real estate business. .
She accused the former president and his Trump Organization of fraudulently inflating the value of his valuable assets, including his home and golf course, to obtain favorable loans and tax benefits.
The lawsuit seeks to strip Trump of his ability to operate businesses in the Empire State and bar him and his company from buying commercial real estate for several years.
Trump announced himself on Truth Social Wednesday that he used the post to denounce crime on the rise in New York.
“James is doing nothing to protect New York City from these violent crimes and criminals, but she is attacking great and honorable corporations…they have done nothing wrong. Like the Trump Organization, which is very successful and generates jobs and taxes, I have been painstakingly building it for a long, long time,” Trump said on his social media platforms.
“Crooked and highly partisan James pursues my revocable trust, snoops on my private property plans, and recklessly seeks out ways to harm me, my family, my business, and my property.” I think it’s New York State’s job to find tens of millions of supporters.
“This wouldn’t have happened if I hadn’t been elected President of the United States and had not led the polls by a wide margin against both Democrats and Republicans.”
A spokesperson for James’ office said Trump’s past two efforts to end the investigation had been rejected.
“Multiple judges have dismissed Donald Trump’s baseless attempts to circumvent justice, and there is no lawsuit to deter him from pursuing this fraud,” a spokesperson told Axios.
“We sued Donald Trump for committing a massive financial fraud. The fact remains that no one, no matter how powerful or political, is above the rule of law. Our determination to do so will not change.”
