Devils stun Stars with 2 quick goals in third, go on to win

DALLAS – Nico Hischier and Pavel Zacha scored 10 seconds apart in the third period, and the New Jersey Devils beat the Dallas Stars 3-1 on Saturday.

Ty Smith also scored his third goal for New Jersey, dropping five in a row. Fabian Zetterlund had two assists and Nico Daws had 27 saves.

Dallas defender Ryan Suter scored his 100th career goal of 13:31 in the second. Jake Oettinger made 20 stops, but Zvezda (40-27-4) missed the opportunity to strengthen its position in the playoffs in the Western Conference.

Smith equalized at 1 when he turned a wrist kick from the top of the right circle to 4:26. It was Smith’s fifth goal of the season.

Hischier put New Jersey in the lead and stayed with 1:11. He passed by a goal on the right, then came back and defeated Oettinger for his 20th goal of the season.

After the bully, Zacha slid into the left circle of the bully and sent the puck into the net. It was Zachi’s 14th of the season.

Stars took the lead on Suter’s seventh of the year, stopping a 0-for-13 drought on power play. Suter scored by hitting the wrist from the top of the left circle.


Hischier achieved a career record of 20 goals from the 2017-18 start season. He also has a record 34 assists and 54 points.


Devils: Play second in five Western Trip games Tuesday in Arizona.

Stars: Finish consecutive games with both an inbound and outbound trip to Chicago on Sunday.
