Donald Trump has been indicted and ready to end his life “in prison,” Democrats argued. I recommended indicting the former president on four criminal charges related to the Capitol riot.
Rep. Jamie Ruskin, a Maryland Democrat who served on the House Select Committee, said Mr. Trump is likely to go to prison for the rest of his life.
Topics on Yahoo! On the Skardagary podcast of The News on Christmas Eve, Democratic lawmakers said they would be “genuinely surprised” if Attorney General Merrick Garland didn’t indict Trump for his alleged role in the riots.
He added that it was “very clear” that the former president intended to “sabotage” election verification.
“I think it’s very important to prove that it’s not just infantrymen who are being prosecuted, it’s important people,” Ruskin said.
“And to send hundreds of infantrymen to prison and leave a very obvious kingpin unprosecuted is just plain wrong.”
Trump could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted of the Jan. 6 charges, adding, “Everything Donald Trump has done has been deeply responsible from the beginning.
“I take him very seriously that he will face the consequences and pay the price for his actions.
“He could have spent the rest of his misanthropic life in prison, presumably with a Secret Service agent.

Trump has lashed out at the January 6 attacks after a House Select Committee recommended that the Justice Department seek criminal charges against the former president.
“These are sick people,” he said in a Truth Social video clip.
“They are Marxists, and they are very dangerous and very bad people.”
In the video, he said, “The events of January 6 were not riots,” but instead “a protest that tragically got out of hand.”
He said the commission “provided not a single shred of evidence that I intended or desired violence in any way in the Capitol,” adding that “the allegations are baseless and outrageous.” It doesn’t exist because there is.”
The commission said its conclusion was that “the central cause of January 6th was one man, former President Donald Trump, followed by many others.”
“Without him, the events of January 6th would not have happened,” they added.
Ruskin told the podcast that he believed the commission was “cautious and conservative” in filing criminal charges against Trump.
These charges included inciting riots, obstructing Congress, conspiring to defraud the United States, and conspiring to make false statements.
The Justice Department is not required to act on referrals and Trump has not been charged with a crime.
