Amazon has come under pressure to stop selling movies that are widely anti-Semitic and riddled with conspiracy theories.
Released in 2018, titled From Hebrews to Blacks: Black Americans Waking Up, the film is based on the 2014 book of the same name and tells of Jewish control of the slave trade and the Holocaust. claims never happened.
Earlier this week, NBA player Kyrie Irving tweeted a link to the movie. His team, the Brooklyn Nets, Suspension of at least 5 gamesIrving has since deleted the tweet and apologized for promoting the film following widespread condemnation by the media and NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
The Jewish Committee of America, one of the largest Jewish organizations in the United States, has launched a petition asking Amazon to remove the film from its e-commerce platform.
“Amazon plays an important role in ensuring that Americans do not consume hateful propaganda and misinformation,” the petition reads. “This year, he thanked Amazon for stopping the spread of hate by removing more than 20 Nazi propaganda films and other anti-Semitic content in January. We recommend that you remove this film and book from your platform.”
As of Friday, the three-hour movie is available on Amazon for $40 and can be rented for $11. Selling for $35, the book is currently the #1 seller in the Religion & Spirituality category on Amazon.
American Jewish Committee CEO Ted Ducci tweeted on Friday that the film is “on Amazon’s bestseller list.”
We’ve reached out to Amazon for comment, but have yet to hear back.
Other celebrities have also questioned why Amazon is promoting the film.
ESPN’s NBA analyst Jay Williams said Wednesday, “Where’s the same attention and energy for the platforms that promote it and profit from it.” I haven’t heard the story.”
After being late in denouncing the film, he 5 game suspensionIrving posted a lengthy apology on Instagram Friday.
“I deeply apologize for causing you pain,” he wrote in part. We have learned from these events and I hope that we can develop a better understanding between all of us.”
