Diablo is one of the largest series of video games and Blizzard’s most popular intellectual property. Many modern RPGs still try to recapture the hack-and-slash nature of these classic games, as the gameplay is unrivaled. Gamers have played Diablo and its sequels repeatedly.
But how do you layer the series? Diablo spans decades and for the most part they are all great games and you should find mods to fix a few things. You will find yourself playing a lot.
8 diablo immortal
Diablo Immortal may be a sign of the times, as Blizzard Activision turned one of its most beloved series into a mobile cash cow. The game got pretty good ratings in his 2022, but has been criticized for using microtransactions.
This was famously “immortalized” when the game was announced at 2018’s BlizzCon, and fans booed when they heard it would be released on Android and iOS instead of PC. The game has been described as fun, especially with its backbone on mobile phones, but despite its immense popularity, it still retains its mobile stigma. Gamers would have loved to play Diablo 4.
7 Diablo
Time wasn’t kind to the original Diablo. The 1997 title was groundbreaking in terms of gameplay and multiplayer at the time, but now it’s a quaint experience. The lack of execution features, the simplistic nature of the loot loop, and the graphics make this feel way ahead of its time (to be fair, it is).
This game is a classic car with no power steering or seat belts. Luckily, some mods have been created to make your Diablo experience more enjoyable, but we recommend checking out the Diablo II Remaster.
6 Hellfire
Hellfire was unique in that Blizzard actually went to Synergistic Software for this expansion instead of Diablo. Blizzard was initially resistant to anyone touching its intellectual property. Still, Synergistic Software did a great job adding tons of quality-of-life upgrades to the original game, adding dungeons, characters, items, and Easter eggs.
There is a lot of hidden content to unlock, including two unfinished characters. Also added a jog button which was needed in the first game. This was a natural “middle way” from the original Diablo to his second game in the series.
Five diablo 3
Diablo 3’s launch wasn’t Blizzard’s finest moment, as the online-only PC version failed as the Battle.net servers couldn’t keep up with the initial load of demand. Having recovered from its start, the third installment in the series has become one of the most popular and most replayable action RPGs on the market.
While some people still crave Diablo 2, Diablo 3 was a fairly worthy modern successor, with some nice streamlined additions to the core gameplay. It’s no wonder Diablo 3 is still very much talked about today and remains a giant in the gaming industry thanks to its fun co-op play.
Four Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls
Some felt that Diablo 3 could have been made with a darker tone, and Reaper of Souls definitely delivers on that. As an expansion, this entry did a great job of adding something new to the original game’s solid gameplay while also adding a very menacing villain of Marthael, the Angel of Death.
The stakes are high in this game, and it feels like there’s a heightened sense of unease about the world. This felt much more substantial as an expansion than what has become his DLC in modern games.
3 Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction
The Diablo 2 expansion added many new features to the PC classic, along with the story’s fifth act and two new character classes, making it a worthy employer to hire.
Suppose you’re trying to return to the classic Diablo 2 experience. If so, we recommend adding this expansion with lots of improvements and quality of life changes. This will give you a more complete experience of hacking and demon slashing. The story also prepares for Diablo 3, so if you’ve been playing the series, this is a must-have. That’s it.
2 diablo 2
Diablo 2 expands on everything from the original game tenfold. The kill, loot, and reward feedback that many players loved hit the loop. The game is considered one of his best games of all time, and there is no debate about that point.
Diablo 2 can be considered the gold standard for PC gaming as well as Blizzard and action RPG games. It set the bar so high that some still don’t think Diablo 3 has reached that level, even for a very well-made expansion. Released for computers in the late 1990s, this is the best game in the Diablo series, except for one minor flaw.
1 Diablo 2: Resurrection
As for the original Diablo 2: It ran at a resolution of 640×480. The expansion increased it to 800×600, but that’s the 2020s and not the way to play video games. Blizzards’ Diablo 2 “remaster” is well done, with updated graphics, modern gameplay additions, and all the features that the classic game and its expansions had.
As evidenced by Blizzard’s Warcraft 3 effort, remasters sometimes fail, but Diablo’s redux was good. It’s on all modern consoles and PCs, so instead of messing around with the original game’s compatibility issues, get this version and hack and slash to your heart’s content.
