Adam Zimmer, the son of former Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer and 16 seasons as an NFL assistant coach, died Monday at the age of 38.
Corey Zimmer-White, Mike’s daughter and Adam’s sister, confirmed the news on Instagram Tuesday morning.
Adam Zimmer joined the Vikings’ coaching staff in 2014 when his father was hired as head coach. He coached the linebackers for 6 his seasons before being promoted to co-defensive coordinator in 2020. He was laid off along with his father. Coaching staff after the 2021 season.
Zimmer began his coaching career in 2006 with the New Orleans Saints as an assistant linebacker coach. From his 2010 to his 2012 Kansas City he held a similar position with the Chiefs. In 2013 Mike joined Zimmer as his defensive coordinator in his final season in Cincinnati. .
Most recently, Adam Zimmer worked as an offensive analyst for the Bengals.
“Our organization has known and worked with the Zimmer family for 15 years,” Bengals president Mike Brown said in a statement. I am deeply saddened by this tragic news.
“Mike and Adam were more than just coaches to us. They were friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Zimmer family at this time.”
“It brought back memories of Adam’s four years with our organization,” the Saints said in a statement. “Adam was knowledgeable, hardworking, well-liked and enthusiastic by everyone he came in contact with.He quickly developed into an excellent coach during his time with the Saints.”
In her Instagram post, Zimmer White wrote about the unexpected death of patriarch Vicky Zimmer in 2009.
“My brother was one of my closest friends. We became very close, especially after my mother passed away. He did it for me.”
