We appreciate the convenience of online shopping, but some e-commerce websites can be very difficult to browse. If you stroll through Homegoods or your local antique shop, you can peruse the curated aisles and find your favourite. However, if you’re bringing home decor to Amazon, you need to know what you’re looking for. The nearly limitless options are intimidating and sometimes of questionable quality. Some of the top Southern designers show us her must-haves for Amazon’s Home. Here’s what to look for to shop on Amazon like a pro. Professional-grade purchases delivered to your doorstep in just a few days.
acrylic eisel
“These acrylic holders are great for styling shelves,” says Raleigh, North Carolina-based designer Cameron Jones. “They are a little bit more modern and a little bit more traditional, and can work for art and plates and really let what they have in hand shine.”
pillow insert
Pillow inserts make or break pillows. These things are totally plush, Jones says, replacing overly stiff or worn-out inserts with store-bought cushions, or using these inserts as the base for custom his throws. “A proper insert can make a big difference to a custom pillow,” says Jones.
bulletin board
Not only does Jones use these distributable bulletin boards as inspiration for her office, she also loves them as home decor. Jones recommends hanging them as is or taking a DIY approach. “These are inexpensive, but they look great as standalones,” she says. “I also like to cover them with fabric for a customized and fun look.”
filler moss
Yes you read that right. “I order moss fillers and moss balls for my clients,” she says. Great for sticking to the bottom of artificial plants or trees, live or artificial orchids, also great for filling bowls when you want some greenery but don’t need to keep live plants from dying .”
fake branch
Louisville, Kentucky designer Bethany Adams has another great indoor plant selected by Amazon. The secret to effortless elegance is these faux-her branches.
“A beautifully placed fake branch is a great way to make your home look like it’s been published in a luxury magazine,” says Adams. “Lots of affordable options that look just like the real thing!”
linen shower curtain
When trying to achieve a sleek washroom that won’t break the bank, Adams turns to Amazon. “When remodeling a bathroom on a budget, opt for a luxurious real linen shower curtain,” she advises. “Not only is it elegant and affordable, but it also has natural antibacterial properties.”
wooden cutting board
“A round cutting board looks great leaning against a backsplash and is an affordable way to dress up a kitchen counter,” Adams says. It’s perfect.”
geometric vase
Every Southerner should have a curated collection of vases to display fresh flowers from the garden. Based designer Meredith Owen is turning to Amazon for a funkier home for floral arrangements. It’s a great way to decorate,” she says.
acrylic picture frame
“Acrylic picture frames are not only a quick and easy way to change family photos, they’re also an inexpensive way to dress up your bookshelf,” says Owen. Purchasing a pack of these frames will definitely pay off and will be used for displays throughout the house.
throw blanket
If comfort and cuteness are your top priorities, Owen raves that this throw blanket is perfect for you. “A cozy New Zealand throw blanket is the perfect accent for a chair or sofa!” Choose the color that best suits your home and have a soft, stylish throw ready to ship in just a few days.
remote control USB bulb
Brenda K. Thompson, owner and principal designer of HouseLift Design in Marietta, Georgia, makes these Amazon bulbs a great choice when you want light but don’t have an outlet nearby or don’t want to see the cords. I’m here. She also likes how easy it is to turn on the light without lifting a finger.
coffee table book
Every Southern hostess should have at least a few coffee table books on hand, and Amazon has them in spades. This is just one of Thompson’s favorite Amazon coffee table books. “We recommend at least a 9-inch by 12-inch size for display books,” she advises.
upholstery cleaner
When decorating a home, designers remind us that we already need to think about upkeep.
code management
Modern design often goes all out when it comes to technology, but they don’t want to look at the code to prove it. Thompson uses these cord his hiders to camouflage bulky cords and TV cables. One of these she says can go really far at home in her office.
rug pad
The pros don’t rely on Amazon for the rugs themselves, but do utilize the site’s inventory of the materials they need under the rug. Thompson says this rug pad from Amazon is “luxury and safe for all floor types!”
