Statista reports that over 160 million people have paid for Amazon Prime memberships.
There are many ways to save money on Amazon, and it doesn’t have to be Black Friday or a big sale event.
Here are our top 10 tips for saving.
1. Unhurried shipping
Every time you checkout your Amazon cart, you have the option of no expedited shipping, which saves you money.

The downside is that you can’t get the items immediately, but you can earn rewards such as discounts on future orders.
2. Discounted products
Amazon sells opened, used, or slightly damaged items.
These used items are usually heavily discounted, so you may want to be careful.
3. Same day delivery
Amazon’s same day delivery will receive the item by 9pm the next day.
Many online retailers offer multiple free shipping options with your Prime membership.
Two-hour grocery delivery is also available.
4. Get the “add-on” item
An “add-on” item is an item whose cost is too low to be shipped separately.
Generally not available for purchase unless added to shipping over $25.
If you don’t want to spend all $25, you can get $25 by pre-ordering upcoming books and video games.
You will not be charged for the item until the release date. After the release date, pre-orders can be canceled if necessary.
5. Share Your Prime Membership
Another great way to save money is to share your Prime membership with friends and family.
The monthly fee is $14.99 or $139 annually, so if you get a few friends together you can easily split the cost.
6. 6 months free trial for students
If you’re a student, take advantage of Amazon’s free trial.
College students can take advantage of a 6-month free trial of Amazon Prime.
After 6 months, if you continue to join while still in school, you can use it for half the regular membership fee.
7. Watch movies and shows for free
If you already have Amazon Prime, you can watch movies and TV shows for free with Prime Video.
If you run out of free Prime movies and TV shows to watch, Amazon can add channels like HBO, Showtime, and CBS All Access for an additional fee.
Each channel usually also offers a 7-day free trial.
8. First reading
Amazon Prime members get access to Prime Reading, a digital library of over 1,000 books and magazines.
Simply read using your Kindle e-reader or Fire tablet, or download the Kindle app to your phone.
9. Redeem your item for a gift card
Amazon gives you an Amazon gift card when you ship an item through the Amazon Trade-In Program.
The items they accept for trade-in fall into eight categories: Kindle e-readers, tablets, streaming media players, Bluetooth speakers and headphones, home security devices, wireless routers, mobile phones, and gaming systems.
Amazon will collect your device for recycling or resale.
10. Amazon Family
Amazon discounts are available for couples looking to start a family.
Prime members who sign up for Amazon Family can receive a 15% baby registry discount.
You will also be provided with a complimentary welcome box containing products for both parents and baby.
Other member discounts
Amazon Prime memberships are $14.99 per month and there is also a streaming membership for the same price.
Netflix’s Basic with Ads subscription is $6.99 and Basic is $9.99.
A standard subscription that allows two streamers at the same time is $15.99.
